Founded in 1984, the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS) was created to foster international multidisciplinary communication about clinical, educational and research issues that relate to the subspecialty of psycho-oncology and two primary psychosocial dimensions of cancer: 1) Response of patients, families and staff to cancer and its treatment at all stages; 2) Psychological, social and behavioral factors that influence tumor progression and survival.

The IPOS 14th World Congress will be held in Brisbane, Australia, in conjunction with the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA) 39th Annual Scientific Meeting. The theme is Impact through Translation: Cancer Research Informing Practice.
Registration and abstract submission are now open. Abstracts are now due 21 May 2012.
IPOS Membership
Membership is open to individuals with a diversity of clinical and research backgrounds. These include, but are not limited to, physicians, social workers, nurses, psychologists, rehabilitation specialists, epidemiologists, social scientists, and educators. Through individual memberships and its Federation, IPOS includes and serves over 5,000 professionals in more than 40 countries.

IPOS International Standard of Quality Cancer Care
Distress may soon be universally ranked as the 6th vital sign in cancer care, following the Union of International Cancer Control’s (UICC) endorsement
of the IPOS recommendation that cancer care standards and clinical practice guidelines be revised. See the standards of care news page for details on endorsing the IPOS standard and to see the organizations that alread have endorsed it.
