Dr. Leah E. Walsh is an Assistant Professor in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She completed a T32 postdoctoral fellowship in Cancer Prevention and Control at Mount Sinai and previously completed a T32 predoctoral research fellowship in Psycho-Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She completed her American Psychological Association-accredited internship in Behavioral Medicine at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital. As a caregiving scientist and clinical psychologist, she is dedicated to improving the lives and care experience for family and friend caregivers of patients with serious or chronic illnesses through targeted psychosocial interventions. Her research seeks to identify the needs of unique groups of caregivers through mixed-method approaches in order to adapt and test psychosocial interventions to improve anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges related to caregiving. In addition to her research, Dr. Walsh provides individual and group psychotherapy to caregivers through the Caregiver Support Program in the Steven S. Elbaum Family Center for Caregiving at Mount Sinai

Learning Objectives:

Participants will gain a better understanding of fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) in cancer caregivers, including 

1. How it is conceptualized, how it is different from similar constructs, and its associations with key variables, 
2. Assessment of FCR
3. Interventions to reduce FCR 
4. Clinical considerations when working with caregivers.
