Workshop Objectives:

The attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the impact of cancer and treatment-related physical, psychosocial, and cognitive functioning on work ability and employment in cancer survivors
  • Become familiar with research and assessment tools measuring work-related aspects in cancer survivors
  • Become familiar with current models of counseling and decision-making to assist patients in coping with work and employment-related problems


Workshop Description:

This workshop provides an overview of issues related to employment, work ability and psychosocial well-being among cancer survivors including aspects of modifiable risk factors, long term problems in affected workers and work satisfaction. Current theoretical models of the relationship between demographic, cancer and treatment-related as well as psychosocial factors on employment and work-related issues are presented and discussed. The workshop will include information about assessment tools and their applications. The workshop will introduce models of counseling and decision-making to assist cancer patients in coping with difficult situations at the workplace, problems in returning to work and job accommodations. Participants are encouraged to bring cases with them.
