Target Audience:
Any professional who works with cancer patients providing psychological support/care.
Workshop Objectives:
At the end of the workshop attendees will:
1. Have some knowledge of CBT/Self-efficacy
theory.
2. Be able to identify CBT and problem-focused techniques.
3. Have acquired
some limited skills in the application of CBT.
4. Have had the opportunity
to observe and participate in simulated therapy sessions.
5. Will have guidelines/criteria
by which to judge their CBT skills in the future.
Workshop Description:
This
workshop provides a unique opportunity to observe therapy in action.
The main focus is on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy/Problem-focused Therapy.
This is a one-to-one therapy method.
The day is made up of 4 segments.
1. A description of underlying theory
and a therapy role play by the workshop leader (in English).
2. A formulation exercise during which participants discuss in small
groups (in their own language*) a therapy plan for a single case following
by
a whole group discussion (in English).
3. An introduction to therapy where participants work in small groups
(usually in their own language*) doing therapy role plays.
4. A whole group discussion (in English) of what has been learned, how
to look for ways of developing future skills and a de-briefing.
(* providing there are at least 3 participants who speak the same language)
The basic principles and underlying theory of CBT will be described with
the opportunity to observe the workshop leader “doing therapy”.
Then for the remainder of the workshop participants will be able to enjoy
doing various role plays and talking about how they might take this therapy
forward into their usual work with cancer patients. The workshop is suitable for a people with wide range of therapy skills. The workshop is organized to provide an opportunity for experiential learning – and
some fun!
