Confrontation and Challenges in Oncosexology: A Practical Workshop for Cancer Care Clinicians

Tuesday, 10 June 2008 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
presented by Woet L Gianotten MD

Presented in English only / Solo en Inglés

Workshop being given under the auspices of the International Society for Sexuality and Cancer (ISSC).

Target Audience:

All onco-professionals directly dealing (verbally) with the patient and/or partner: psychology, nursing, social work, medical, paramedical. Special note: This workshop requires that at least 35% of the audience be male.

Workshop Objectives:

• Increase knowledge regarding the influence of cancer and its treatment on sexuality and the intimate relationship.

• Increase (or develop) the skills to ‘talk sex’ with cancer patients and to deal with various sexual problems after cancer treatment.

• Become part of the process of developing an approach where sexuality is an integrated part of cancer care.

Workshop Description:

The physical arrangement of the workshop will change frequently with small pieces from 3 different components:

  • Plenary / interactive pieces (taking 35% of the total time). Here participants should not be consumers, but are expected to be part of the process.
  • Small one-way presentations (taking 30%). Scientific data will only be delivered when relevant for the direct patient-professional interaction.
  • Small-group exercises (taking 35%). Everyone joining the workshop has to participate in role-playing with positions (as professional, patient or feed-back providing observer) changing regularly.
