Workshop Objectives:
1) The participants will understand the rationale for including psychosocial care as an integral part of treatment for cancer.
2) They will have a better understanding of the historical perspective of psychosocial interventions in cancer care.
3) They will learn how to conduct psycho-educational interventions with patients with cancer.
Workshop Description:
The workshop will provide a rationale for including psychosocial care as an integral part of treatment for cancer. Various intervention philosophies will be discussed. Historical overview of work in the field, including early research interventions designed to alleviate distress, improve quality of life, and enhance coping will be provided. Finally a model of psycho-educational intervention will be presented with a hands-on opportunity for the participants.
