MSc (Psych)
Target Audience: Mental health workers in the field
Workshop Objectives:
1. Introduction of the theoretical principles of Narrative Therapy (White, Epston et al).
2. Introduction to the use of Narrative Therapy methods in psycho-oncology: questions and responses to life stories, questions and responses to the bereaved, questions and responses in supervision of nurses etc.
Workshop Description:
Since the 1980s, a growing interest in Narrative Therapy has occurred in the psychiatric field. But Narrative Therapy seems to be relevant in other contexts as well. Narrative Therapy, as described primarily by Michael White and David Epston, offers helpful perspectives on painful life stories, traumatic events and bereavement and can therefore be applied to the oncology field. Having been trained in Narrative Therapy and having been working in a Copenhagen suburban hospital with oncology and palliative patients and their families since 2002, I have experienced the therapeutic value of Narrative Therapy - and my own sensation of my work life has become even more meaningful. In this workshop, I will introduce some of the theoretical principles of Narrative Therapy and some of the core therapeutic methods and skills. Training exercises will be arranged.
